Please try the following:
1- download and install "Fink 0.9.0 Binary Installer" from
http://www.finkproject.org/download/
2- append /sw/etc/apt/sources.list with the following line:
deb http://fink.gotpike.org/10.5 local main
3- sudo apt-get update
4- sudo apt-get install pike7.8 pike7.8-mysql
Please tell me if this works :)
