i have worked on that more than a year ago for webhaven.
i used the psyc protocol for that: http://code.google.com/p/ppp/
though we had a flash client for both websurfer and attendant.
the attendants interface had some managment features too.
the ppp guys were working on jabber support, but i am not sure what
the state is. (they have jabber support in lpc already)
