I don't have any good ideas, but just to share some experience in that
field; When I had to do expense reports for the Univerisity I made an
example document in some office application. Then I printed it as
Postscript to file. Finally I plucked out the Postscript statements I
needed to be able to repeat for tables and the like and used Pike to
repeat them and fill them with data as needed.
I'm not saying you should do that. It is in fact a pretty damn ugly
method, but on the other hand it's fast to do. It took something like
an afternoon to set up.
