My main suspect is pike_threadlib.h:SWAP_IN_THREAD_IF_REQUIRED(). Try
redefining it to:
#define SWAP_IN_THREAD_IF_REQUIRED() ASSERT_THREAD_SWAPPED_IN()
And see if anything bites.
